Congresswoman Maxine Waters escalated her criticism of Republican-led cryptocurrency legislation, labeling three key bills as a "casino for crypto billionaires" in a July 16 press release. The Democratic ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee warned the proposed CLARITY and GENIUS Acts risk destabilizing the financial system while legitimizing what she called "Donald Trump’s crypto scams."

The rebuke follows a 215-211 procedural vote advancing the legislation, which Waters claims fails to curb growing crypto crimes or limit Trump’s industry affiliations. Her statement frames the vote as a referendum on consumer protection versus partisan gains, urging opposition to what she describes as profit-driven deregulation.
